Scooter laws in California?

I google it but I couldn't find any straight answers. I am thinking about getting a 50cc scooter like the Yamaha Zuma. Would I need insurance if I am insured to drive a car. Would I need an additional license to my class C? Would it be different for the 125 Zuma?
